The Potter

The process of constant refinement is a place of great joy in my work. From the first mugs I made on the potter’s wheel, to the ones I am currently making, and the many mugs in between, I learn a little from each form I throw. It’s usually not apparent from day to day or even week to week, but as the months turn to years progress is made. This often happens in life as we are shaped.  “But now, O LORD, you are our Father, we are the clay and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.” -Isaiah 64:8

John McCormack first found his passion for pottery during a high school ceramics class in Williamsburg, VA.   But it wasn't until a wheel throwing class his last semester at CNU that he decided to pursue clay as career.  An apprenticeship in Frisco, NC was a spring board to starting Acorn Pottery in 2004.  It has been a fun journey as the pottery has grown, much like an acorn does from a small seed in to a tree.  Acorn Pottery is a family business.  John, his wife, and three boys currently make pots out of their Spotsylvania, VA studio.
